It has been too Long since I was with you in person, and know it is important to try to reconnect in person and in a community to share connections and rejuvenation. Shelter Island is a beautiful secluded, 8,000-acre island that’s been called the “un-Hamptons” for its tranquility, uncomplicated lifestyle, and lack of Hamptons crowds. Shelter Island is also  home to a 2,100-acre nature conservancy, the Mashomack Preserve.

This 5-Day retreat runs September 18th-22nd, 2022.

We will be staying in a lovely Victorian house by the sea, with simple accommodations and spectacular views on beautiful Shelter Island. Shelter Island is a hamlet island off the coast of Long Island in New York. It sits between the North and South Fork of Long Island, and is is separated by water. Shelter Island is only accessible by car ferry.

This time is meant for you to reconnect after these long months of Pandemic Life. The retreat ends on Autumn Equinox, the official end of summer. “Equinox” is Latin for equal night, as day and night are of equal time on this day, and the sun is directly over the equator. This is the center of the seasons, a time of stillness, and balance. In the Buddhist tradition, it is Upeksha – Equanimity, a time to find center.

We will gather together to connect, practice yoga and spend time outdoors watching the sun set into the Ocean. It is a magical spot to watch the sun set, as we move into the cooler months.

YOGA + MENOPAUSE

This series focuses on hormonal health and the stages of hormonal process towards the end of reproductive years commonly known as Menopause. A healthcare professional confirms menopause after a female has had no periods for 12 months in a row. After this, they will no longer be able to become pregnant without assistance.

Healthcare professionals use the term perimenopause to refer to the years before menopause, when hormone levels are changing but menstruation still occurs.

Menopause occurs when ovaries stop making estrogen and other sex hormones. Estrogen levels start to fluctuate in the years before menopause. The changes that lead to menopause happen gradually; there will be disruption in the menstrual cycle, and other changes. This series discusses how yoga can be used to help with the transition of cycle and hormonal changes.

Sex and gender exist on a spectrum. Please note I will use the term “female” to refer to a person’s sex assigned at birth.

This program prepares you to build on previous knowledge and offers the opportunity to explore advanced theory and practice as safe, knowledgeable, and professional practitioners. Its aim is to hone the skills of teachers to prepare you for leadership in our profession. The yoga educator is charged with teaching a diverse body of students, so I developed this curriculum with guidance from 800Hr Yoga Therapy curricular guidelines.
