Chinese astrology (shengxiao – ‘born resembling’), is a repeating cycle of 12 years, with each year represented by an animal and its personality attributes.
Chinese people associate each animal with certain characteristics. It’s believed that people have the personality of their birth year’s animal.
In order, the 12 Chinese horoscope animals are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig. 2019 is a year of the Pig.
We determine a person’s Chinese Astrological Animal by birth year based on the Chinese New Year’s Day. You cannot determine your Chinese Astrological Animal by birth year only. The common astrology birth chart doesn’t use the Chinese New Year’s day to calculate the birth chart.
Chinese Lunar New Year falls anywhere between January 21 and February 20. In Chinese astrology, the first day of the year is the first day of the Tiger Month, not Chinese New Year’s day. The Tiger Month starts around February 4 every year. So people born in January and early February of a year might not be looking at the right Astrological Animal traits.
Here is a chart of the 12 Animals by year.
